The lovely Alpine pastures’ area (1,600 – 1,900 m) at Dachstein south faces’ foot is a wonderful place for hiking, splendid views and lookouts, and a number of mountain restaurants and Alpine huts. Also, it is an ideal spring-ski area in with great panoramic ski runs and a ski route down to the plateau. For those with a head for heights, the Dachstein mountains offer a multitude of climbing routes and 19 via ferratas three of which are suitable for children.
The high alpine year-round skiing area on the Dachstein glacier (2,700 m) features four ski lifts, up to 18 km of groomed cross-country ski trails (summer training centre), glacier hiking trails, ski runs, a snowboard funpark, the Dachstein Sky Walk, the Ice Palace, as well as a panorama restaurant. The glacier is the starting point for high Alpine hikes and climbing tours.
The Hohe Dachstein is Styria’s highest mountain and, at 2,996 m, one of the highest peaks in the Northern Limestone Alps.
